Spring- Cleaning your home yet? Here are a few tips that I practice when spring cleaning my home or simply looking to refresh my space throughout the year.

With the COVID-19 Virus on the rise, most families are spending time indoors to reduce the spread of the disease. Fortunately, this means more time to get a few tasks completed especially with so many hands around to delegate some work too. I hope you will find my Top 10 Spring Cleaning tips useful and incorporate them into your lives.

1-

Do one room at a time

The best and least overwhelming way to clean your home is to do one room at a time. Select the toughest room to clean and just get it out of the way before you start working your way down.

2-

Delegate a task or two to family members

This was a common practice in my home as a child. I think this alone has taught me so much independence. My mom would cook, my dad fixed broken items, my sister wiped and swept the house, my brother cleaned the yard and I wash the dishes and clean the stairs.

Many hands make the work lighter! Delegating a task or two to family members and trusting them to do it right is a big tip to getting more done in a short period of time.

3-

Listen to something you find uplifting while you work

Personally, I favor listening to meditation music when I am cleaning up the house. Otherwise, I get distracted by singing, dancing, imagining things and staring at videos whenever I listen to regular music. Nevertheless, you might enjoy your hip hop music or an audiobook and find that it keeps your focus. It will help the time you spend cleaning to feel shorter and fun.

4-

Time yourself per task

This is my ultimate favorite way to clean up daily, else, I get too carried away with the work. Set a timer to one hour or a few minutes and spend that time doing as much of the chores as you can. It gives you time to do other things you might need to get done. As the week progress, you can time yourself to do some more until your spring-cleaning is all done.

5-

Check and replace Air Conditioners Filter

The temperature is rising, and the AC will soon be called for. After a long winter, I am pretty sure there are lots of dust accumulated in it. Switch out the filters for cooler, fresher air and to cut down on cost as a part of your spring-cleaning to-do list.

6-

Vacuum and place rugs in sun if possible

I love the hot temperature for this! I can spot clean any stains on my rug and place it somewhere out in the sun to get rid of awful odors and dry out the wet spots. It’s easy to do, cost-efficient and refreshing for my home.

7-

Wipe down all hardwood surfaces with an oil soap solution

Whenever the seasons change, I prepare a bucket of water with some oil soap solution and a washcloth to wipe down any wooden surface that can be reached around the house. Loads of dust and dirt linger on window frames, doors and just plain walls that go unnoticed. A quick wipe can have your paint looking vibrant again.

8-

Condition leather surfaces

Conditioning leather surfaces such as your couch or dining chair seats, can prevent cracking and simply bring the leather back to life. This can secure the longevity of your furniture and remove sweat residue from its surface.

9-

Make sure to dust or vacuum overhead surfaces

Ceilings and selves can collect unseen dust because it is not a typical area to clean or even look at regularly. Wiping it might be way too much of a task, but you can at least vacuum or brush those areas as a part of your spring cleaning chores. The smallest things can make the biggest differences plus it gives you a chance to organize any cluttered selves you might have.

10-

Wash and replace window curtains

Washing and replacing the curtains is something I absolutely look forward to each season. Something I don’t afford right now but one day will do is have a different set of curtains, in different colors, to use each season. Curtains can completely change the appearance of a space. Why not take this chance to wash up the old ones and replace them with some lightweight curtains as a part of your spring home decor this year?
